JM was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB).

JM was elected Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Berlin (Wissenchafskolleg zu Berlin). He will be on a research sabbatical from Jan to July 2024.

JM was elected a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) for the period of 2022 to 2027.

JM was awarded the Riemann Fellowship to visit the Riemann Center for Geometry and Physics for 3 months.

JM was awarded a NERC Disicipline-Hopping grant to visit the Institute of Mathematics for 3 months.

JM was shortlisted to the Rachel Carson Award 2020 from the journal People and Nature, for the best ECR paper published in the journal.
